My Story

My first artwork was of a chicken wearing boots, drawn at age 2. My first set of paints was a vote of confidence or an encouragement award …  an “Artist’s Quality” box of oils from my parents when I was 9.

A love of drawing led me into a 10-year career in commercial art & graphic design, in the days before computer generated images. A subsequent career change launched me into a 20-year business designing & constructing costumes which kept the art “spark” alive.

Following retirement and the luxury of free time, I have been able to indulge my interest in painting and it gives me enormous satisfaction & joy. It is fair to say it nourishes my soul.

I like to paint the “feeling” of the subject into my work and where possible, prefer to use frames that have already had a life … give them a second chance to find a home.

I love mark-making and have produced artwork in many forms … painting with oils and acrylics, printmaking with lino-cuts and etching, drawing and calligraphy, but painting with watercolour makes my heart sing.

My final artwork? To be announced – but not soon and not while I can still make marks!
